untied wins top tax prize at Tolley’s Taxation Awards

untied, the UK’s personal tax app, is proud to have been named as the winner of the ‘Best Digital Innovation’ category at the 2022 Tolley’s Taxation Awards, the pinnacle of tax recognition.

The win was announced at a glittering ceremony at the Hilton on Park Lane. This prestigious event, which has a long history of celebrating excellence across the entire tax profession, brings together the most respected firms and individuals in the tax industry.

The digital innovation award judges were looking specifically for developments that make a step change in the way that taxation services are delivered to clients or the way that tax advisers manage their own practices.

untied’s innovations include the use of untied APIs and integrations to embed tax (including Making Tax Digital for Income Tax) in platforms where people are earning. This brings in other aspects of untied’s capability, for instance a single page to register with HMRC, and tools to aid compliance and to give advisers the ability to support their clients year-round.

The entry which caught the judges’ eye was a product which was designed from the outset with the needs of its customers right at its heart. untied’s app works and thinks the way that a user does.”

"At a personal level, Tolley’s has had an important impact on my own – and untied’s journey.  When I started as an accountant, I had two sets of books on my desk published by Tolley’s. Yellow and Orange tax handbooks were the go-to reference for tax legislation, and the Tolley’s Tax Guides that brought the rules to life. These guides especially showed me how to make taxes understandable – and inspired the accessible language we use at untied.   Like many, I also trained in the building that Tolley’s is now based in – and share memories of sitting at the window overlooking Farringdon Road, as the only tax trainee in a room full of new auditors.  Later, Tolley’s late chair and then President of the Chartered Institute of Taxation, Chris Jones, encouraged the setting up of untied.  And following a warm introduction we were pleased to be among the first partners of Tolley.ai, a new generation of Tolley information.
